Summer Joy

‘Summer Joy’ is representative of a time capsule. An important moment in time was captured through this piece during the 2020 pandemic. As the United States came out of lockdown and summer was beginning, there were a lot of unknowns on where Covid-19 would take us.

We were finally able to leave our homes but the true joy of summer days shifted and turned to unfamiliar summer traditions due to the global pandemic.

The muted colors represent the calm we felt from zero obligations because all events were cancelled. Our family loved the quality time we were able to take advantage of. We were in unchartered territory and became creative in how we spent our days hanging out as a family. It felt like the old days before technology influenced our lives.

The black paint was applied using a splatter technique, creating active vibrancy. This affect reveals the excitement of summer arriving and lockdown mode being over. The color black represents the presence of the pandemic.
